Week of February 22-26.

Wow! I can’t believe we are in the last week of February. We are going to make it a great one.

Monday- *Reminder- Tutoring until 4:30 PM*
We will start the week introducing all the new things we will be working on. In Reading, we will talk about the genre of historical fiction and preview our text for the week. We will continue to talk about quick planning for argumentative essays. In Social Studies, we will continue to learn the effects of the colonist’s rebellion and start reading a new lesson in our textbook. In Math, we will start to refresh our memories with what we already know about our next topic, fractions! We will end the day with Science where will start taking a practice test to prepare for our Science test on Friday.
Homework: Read 20 minutes and log it. Math- Fraction Worksheet.

Tuesday-
We will spend most of our reading time on Tuesday reading and discussing our weekly story, “Ezekiel Johnson Goes West.” We will get time to practice one more quick planning before reviewing the different parts of an essay. In Social Studies, we will continue reading our Chapter to see the results of The Intolerable Acts. In Math, we will continue to talk about fractions and start to practice adding fractions. We will spend Science finishing our practice test and going over it so we can be ready for Friday.
Homework: Math Additional Practice pg. 91 & Read 20 minutes and log it.

Wednesday- **Reminder- Early release at 1:30 PM!*
Wednesday will be a busy day in ELA. We will do a short activity as a class to start the day. Next, we will try out writing an argumentative essay right after being given a prompt. In Math, we will continue to work on and practice learning how to add fractions. In both subjects we will practice our skills on iReady. We will end the day with Health where we will talk about regulating emotions.
Homework: Read 20 minutes and log it & Adding Fractions Worksheet.

Thursday- **Reminder- Tutoring until 4:30 PM**
Thursday, we will continue to think about our historical fiction text, “Ezekiel Johnson Goes West.” We will discuss the story elements and characters as well as make inferences. We will revisit our essays that we wrote quickly to set a goal for the next writing piece. In Social Studies, we will do some Savvas activities about what we read to both learn more and show what we know! During Math, we will start to estimate the sums of fractions by comparing them to whole numbers. We will use this strategy to help us understand adding and subtracting fractions. We will end the day by playing a review game for Science.

Friday! **Reminder- Science Test today!**
We made it to Friday! We will spend wrap up discussing our weekly text, “Ezekiel Johnson Goes West.” We will get some time reading our class chapter book, “A Bridge to Terabithia”. In Social Studies, we will wrap up our discussion about the effects of The Boston Tea Party. In Math, we will spend time practicing with fractions and learn how to find common denominators. We will end the day by taking our Science test for our Force and Motion unit.

Week of February 15- February 19.

Welcome back! I am excited for a short, but great week together!

Tuesday-

Today in Reading, we will read a fiction story called “Lizzie Escapes”. We will spend some time answering questions and writing a summary on our story. We will also get some skill practice on iReady and IXL. In Social Studies, we will finish reading the Chapter about colonists rebelling and do some work on Savvas. In Math, we will also get some skill practice! We will start with iReady and then we will practice division independently using a practice buddy to help us. To end the day with Science, we will finish reading about unbalanced forces before doing activities on Savvas to end our day.

Wednesday-

Today in Reading, we will talk about Black History Month and start to see more historic and heroic figures who helped shape history. We will spend some time reflecting on our persuasive writing and start to plan for our next writing piece. We will spend some time practicing skills on IXL. In Math, we will spend time getting stronger at division and learning how to divide a decimal by another decimal. We will stay focused so we can prepare for our Math test on Friday. In Health, we will talk about regulating our emotions.

Thursday-

Reminder- *Tutoring until 4:30 PM!*

In Reading, we will get some time to practice our skills on iReady before we explore more about Black History Month. We will see how informational books and historical fiction books can help us learn in different ways. We will continue to talk about persuasive writing and practice what is called quick planning. In Social Studies, we will reflect on the actions colonists took to stand up to the British before starting our next chapter. We will continue to practice decimal division and play a review game to prepare for our big test on Friday. In Science, we will also start to review our Chapters for the text we will complete next week.

Homework: Read 20 minutes and log it. Math Additional Practice pg. 87.


Friday!

Yay! We made it. We will talk in reading about text structure and text features before reviewing inferences and story elements. We will continue to compare and contrast learning from informational texts and from fiction stories. We will do another quick planning of persuasive writing. As a Friday reward, we will read some of our read aloud “A Bridge to Terabithia”. In Social Studies, we will continue to talk about events like the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party. We will then spend time taking our Math test on division of decimals. We will end the day with Science where we will see an experiment that uses force and motion to explain something neat.  No homework! Have a great weekend!

Welcome to February! I cannot believe this year is going by us so quickly.

Monday:
-Tutoring until 4:30 PM.
We will focus our weekly reading lessons on Black History Month and it’s importance this week. We will also work on finishing up our persuasive essays. Today, we will get some iReady time and review character traits and summaries of fiction stories. In Social Studies, we will preview our new unit on the American Revolution. In Math, we will practice estimating and dividing a decimal by a power of ten. We will end the day with Science where we will do some activities about force and motion.
Homework: Math Additional Practice pg. 81 & Read 20 minutes and log it.

Tuesday: We will get into our weekly reading which this week and start to plan for our Black History Month Research project. We will focus on introductions for our persuasive essays in writing. In Social Studies, we will begin to read our first Chapter on the American Revolution and discuss the causes. In Math, we will divide a whole number by a decimal number. In Science, we will start to learn about some of Newton’s laws.
Homework: Read 20 minutes & Math Additional Practice.

Wednesday:
-Early Release @ 1:30 PM.
We will spend time in reading working on summaries and discussing theme. We will focus our writing time on revisions and edits and write our conclusions. In Math, we will continue to practice division with decimals. In Health, we will talk about our emotions and regulating them. We will practice on iReady in both Math and Reading.
Homework: Read 20 minute & Math Worksheet.

Thursday:
– Tutoring until 4:30 PM.
We will write summaries for our weekly story and then talk about character traits. We will get plenty of time to completely finish our essays before looking at a couple great examples. In Social Studies, we will continue to discuss the causes of the Revolutionary War. In Math, we will work in groups to practice division of decimals. In Science, we will do some activities on Savvas about Newton’s laws.
Homework: Practice for Math quiz on Friday.

Friday:
We will continue to talk about Black History Month and get some time to spend working on our research projects. We will read our class read aloud, “A Bridge to Terabithia” and see Jess and Leslie finally start to create their secret land. We will make any last minute edits on our essays before turning them in to be graded and reflecting on our writing. In Social Studies, we will start to discuss the tensions with Britain that the colonists were experiencing. In Math, we will take a short quiz on decimal division. We will end the day doing some fun activities to discuss Newton’s laws.
