Week of November 30- December 4.

Welcome back from break! I hope it is relaxing and that you are just as excited to get back and start learning!

Monday- **Tutoring until 4:30 PM**

In Reading Workshop, we will revisit realistic fiction and learn about the genre. We will talk about our weekly question and think about what “reflections” means. We will start a writing unit that will teach us how to write a longer summary. In Social Studies, we will preview our next unit about life in the colonies after they were settled. In Math, we will start a new unit that is all about division! In Science, we will finally start exploring energy even more by reading our textbook together.

Homework: Read 15 minutes and log it. Math Additional Practice pg. 63 #1-16.

Tuesday-

Reading workshop will consist of learning our new vocabulary words and diving into our week realistic fiction story, “A Pet for Calvin”. We will continue to think about writing summaries. In Social Studies, we will explore the New England colonies and see what their lifestyle was life. We will compare it to our lifestyle and other colonies. In Math, we will keep learning division and estimate quotients. In Science, we will learn the different forms of energy.

Homework: Read 15 minutes and log it. Math Additional Practice pg. 65 #1-15.

Wednesday- **Reminder Early Release at 1:30 PM**

In reading workshop, we will discuss our story and do some work with it. We will work on our vocabulary words and keep working on learning how to write summaries for informational texts. In Math, we will see how we can use models to divide whole numbers and practice doing so. In Health, we will talk about how learning about our emotions helps us get through them.

Homework: Read 15 minutes and log it. Math Additional Practice pg. 67 #1-8.

Thursday- **Reminder! Tutoring until 4:30 PM!**

In reading workshop, we will continue to talk about “A Pet for Calvin”. We will talk about the plot and the characters and look for text evidence to support what we are saying. We will continue to write our summary. In Social Studies, we will finish talking about life in the New England colonies. In Math, we will learn a new strategy to divide whole numbers. In Science, we will continue to explore different forms of energy and sort items by their energy.

Homework: Read 15 minutes and log it. Math Additional Practice pg. 69 #1-13.

Friday-

We made it though the week! We will take a reading quiz in reading and get to read “Wonder” as a Friday treat and watch August’s journey. In Social Studies, we will start to look at life in a colony in a different place and see their lifestyle. In Math, we will do an Etsi-mystery and keep practicing our division with decimals. In Science, we will keep exploring energy!

Week of November 16-November 20!

Welcome back! I am excited to spend the week with the awesome 5th grade students before our Thanksgiving Break! **Math and Social Studies test- this Friday!**

Monday- **Reminder– Tutoring until 4:30 PM!**

We will kick off our week with reading! In reading, we will talk about realistic fiction and discuss how our new unit is all about reflections. We will listen to Ms. Zaremski read a short passage and think of problem and solutions. In Social Studies, we will talk about colonists and make a video pretending to live our life as a colonist. In Math, we will continue to multiplication with decimals. In Science, we will start to preview our new unit and share any background knowledge about our next topic “Energy”!

Tuesday- **Reminder, it’s picture day!**

In reading, we will star to read our weekly text “Love, Amalia”. As we read we will start to think about the characters and the plot of the story. We will begin to answer our reading questions and talk about summaries for fictional texts. For Social Studies, we will spend time watching the videos we worked on Monday. In Math, we will work on another strategy to multiply decimals. We will end the day with Science where we will start to read about different forms of energy.

Wednesday- **Reminder- Early release at 1:30**

Today, we will dive back into our weekly reading of “Love, Amalia.” We will start to think deeply about the characters and the conflict that we read about in the story. We will start to plan using our outline to write a summary on our weekly story. In Math, we will do word problems that let us practice multiplying decimals. We will get some iReady time in both subjects and end the day talking about healthy habits in Health.

Thursday- **Reminder-Tutoring today until 4:30 PM!**

Today in reading, we will make connections with our text. We will use this to better understand the story. We will get some practice with our vocabulary words and continue to practice writing summaries. We will also talk about theme. In Social Studies, we will review all about the settlements in the America’s so we are ready for Friday’s quiz. In Math, we will also review to prepare for Friday’s test about decimals and multiplication. In Science, we will read continue to read about different forms of energy.

Friday! Yay!

Happy Friday! We will end the week with reading a fun play about how a turkey does not think we should eat him for Thanksgiving. We will also wrap up talking about our realistic fiction text, “Love, Amalia”. We will get some read aloud time of “Wonder” to see how August is coping with 5th grade. In Social Studies, we will take our chapter test and do awesome! We will end the week with a Mystery science activity about a certain form of energy. We will share out some of our plans for break before saying goodbye for a week!

Week of November 9-November 13

Welcome back!

Monday- **Reminder** Tutoring today until 4:30 am.

Today we will be reviewing in our Language Arts period. We will work on reading a short story, getting some vocabulary words, and practice prefixes on IXL. In Social studies, we will continue to talk about Pilgrims and watch a short video. In Math, we will continue to practice both decimals and multiplication. We will end the day by watching a Science video and working on our projects.

Homework- Finish your science project and read 15 minutes and log it.

Tuesday-

Today, we will learn what an argumentative text is and read 2 short stories for our weekly reading. We will compare how argumentative texts are different than informational texts and talk about animals. We will see a different group of colonists by reading about the French and the Dutch and their settlements. We will multiply a decimal by a whole number and keep practicing multiplication. At the end of the day, we will reflect on our Science projects and some of us will start to present!

Homework- Read 15 minutes and log it. Math Additional Practice pg. 51 #1-14.

Wednesday! **Reminder early release at 1:30!**

In reading today, we will get some time on iReady and work on our weekly reading. We will answer our reading questions and write a summary. We will talk about Veteran’s Day. In Math, we will take it the next step with multiplication and practice multiplying decimals by decimals. In Health, we will work on talking about how knowing how we feel and how it effects our life.

Homework-Read 15 minutes and log it. Finish Practice Buddy from class.

Thursday- **Reminder, tutoring until 4:30 PM**

In Reading today, we will continue to work on our stories and summarizing. We will reread our stories and highlight important information to get ready for Friday’s reading quiz. We will keep talking about what we learned from reading argumentative text. During Social Studies, we will continue to talk about the French and the Dutch and do some activities to better understand their lifestyle. In Math, we will review multiplying decimals and practice multiplying a decimal by a decimal! In Science, we will continue our presentations and learn from our classmates about severe weather.

Friday- Quiz day!

Happy Friday! We will start the day with a discussion and a reading quiz before practicing writing summaries. As a Friday treat, we will read our chapter book “Wonder” and see how August is doing in 5th grade. In Social Studies, we will do a fun activity to put ourselves in the shoes of the Pilgrims and think about their lifestyle. In Math, we will practice with decimals before we do an Etsi-mystery to practice our estimation and math skills. We will end the day with Science where we will wrap up any presentations before previewing our next Science unit.

Welcome back! I am so excited for an awesome week with my favorite group of fifth graders.

Monday! **Reminder- Tutoring until 4:30 PM today!**

We will start the week by reviewing text features and previewing ideas for our weekly reading. We will continue working with summaries and introduce our next writing unit which will be all about writing summaries. In Social Studies, we will start to learn about the Puritans and the Pilgrims by reading our chapter and doing some activities. In Math, we will start a new unit. Our new unit will be all about multiplication of decimals. Monday, we will be working with the powers of 10. In Science, we will work on studying and researching severe weather so we can create an infographic to share with our classmates.

Tuesday!

Today, we will continue learning about all our exciting topics across all of our different subjects. We will read our weekly reading “Tracking Monsters” and while we read, we will pay close attention to text features. We will get our new vocabulary words and practice identifying main idea. In Social Studies, we will continue to read and learn about Puritans and Pilgrims as we think about colonists. In Math, we will start to estimate to find products of multiplying decimals by whole numbers. In Science, we will continue to work on our weather research project.

Homework- Read 15 minutes & log it. Math Additional Practice book pg. 45 #’s 1-12.

Wednesday! **Reminder** Early Release @ 1:30.

Today in reading, we will spend some time today continuing to explore our weekly reading “Tracking Monsters”. We will come up with ideas based off the reading and synthesize what we learned. We will also continue to work on writing summaries and identifying main idea. In Math, we will continue working with multiplication of decimals. We will use models to practice multiplying a decimal by a whole number. In Health, we will talk about the benefits of exercising!

Thursday! **Reminder** Tutoring today until 4:30 PM!

Today in reading, we will continue to work with text features and our weekly reading “Tracking Monsters”. We will summarize a part of our text and continue to learn how to write amazing summaries about informational texts. In Social Studies, we will start to see a new group of colonists. We will learn about the experiences of the French and the Dutch. In Math, we will multiply a decimal number by a whole number. We will try our best to do this without our models and manipulatives! We will end the day with Science. We will get some work time for our severe weather projects and we will start to present our projects to our classmates!

Friday! Yay! Another week of learning in the books!

Today, we will wrap up our week together! In Reading, we will have a test about our weekly reading and text features. We will get some time reading “Wonder”! In Social Studies, we will continue to explore the experiences of the French and Dutch colonists. In Math, we will continue to practice our multiplication skills with decimals! We will do an “Etsi Mystery” as a fun Friday treat! We will end the day with our fabulous classmates presenting their severe weather projects.
